A bonus headline is only the beginning of the offer. Wagering requirements determine how much qualifying play is required before bonus-related funds can become withdrawable, and the calculation can differ significantly between promotions.
Understand the terms
Wagering calculator
See how a bonus multiplier and game contribution change the amount of qualifying play. Use the figures in your offer's written terms.
Turnover is not a predicted loss, deposit amount or guaranteed withdrawal. You can lose the bonus before completing wagering. You do not need to keep playing to finish a promotion.
Formula, example and limitations
Qualifying target = bonus funds × multiplier. Turnover = qualifying target ÷ (game contribution ÷ 100).
Example: £20 × 5 = £100 of qualifying wagering. At a 50% contribution, that represents £200 of stakes. These are hypothetical figures, not an operator offer.
At 0% contribution, the game cannot progress a positive requirement. A 0× multiplier means no promotional playthrough; other terms and verification can still apply. Results round upwards to the nearest penny; operator accounting can differ.
This tool assumes one contribution rate throughout. It does not calculate progress already made, mixed-game play, expiry, stake limits, excluded bets or maximum cashout. For free-spin winnings, enter the resulting bonus amount subject to wagering, not the nominal value of the spins.
The Gambling Commission's bonus wagering cap is 10×, effective 19 January 2026. The nominal multiplier and game contribution are separate. Read the official rule and explanation.

Work out what the multiplier applies to
A “30× wagering” condition may apply only to the bonus or to the deposit and bonus together. A £20 deposit plus £20 bonus at 30× bonus means £600 of qualifying wagers. If it applies to both, the requirement becomes £1,200. The terms should state the calculation explicitly.
Check game contribution rates
Slots may contribute 100% while blackjack, roulette or live games contribute less or are excluded. If a game contributes 10%, £100 staked reduces the requirement by only £10. Playing excluded games can also cancel the offer under some terms, so review the eligible-game section first.
Find maximum bet and expiry rules
Promotions often cap the amount allowed per round while wagering is active. They may also expire after a set number of days. Exceeding a maximum bet or missing the deadline can affect the bonus and related winnings. Save the terms that applied when you opted in.
Compare the real commitment
A smaller bonus with lower wagering can involve less required play than a large headline offer. Consider the multiplier, contribution, time limit, maximum bet and withdrawal cap together. If any important condition is difficult to find or understand, skipping the promotion is a reasonable choice.

The bottom line
Good decisions begin with verified information and firm personal limits. Check official sources, read the exact rules that apply and remember that no casino game provides a reliable way to make money. If gambling stops feeling manageable, step away and use the support options in our responsible-gambling guide.
From 19 January 2026, Great Britain licensees must not require customers to wager bonus funds more than 10 times. A £20 bonus can therefore carry no more than £200 of required wagering. The cap applies to the incentive amount; customers must still check eligibility, game weighting, expiry, maximum stakes and cashout conditions.
How to calculate a wagering requirement
Multiply the amount to which the requirement applies by the wagering multiplier. Under the current British rule, the multiplier attached to bonus funds cannot exceed 10. If a promotion gives £10 in bonus funds with 10× wagering, the required turnover is £100.
| Bonus | Requirement | Required wagering |
|---|---|---|
| £5 | 5× bonus | £25 |
| £10 | 10× bonus | £100 |
| £20 | 10× bonus | £200 |
| £50 | 8× bonus | £400 |
Required wagering is turnover, not an additional deposit. However, every qualifying round carries a risk of loss. Completing £200 of turnover does not mean the balance will still contain the original bonus or any winnings.
What the UK 10× rule does and does not cover
The Gambling Commission's Social Responsibility Code limits wagering requirements applied to incentives to a maximum of 10 times the bonus funds. The same reforms prohibit promotions that require customers to gamble on two or more different product types, such as completing both sports bets and casino play to qualify.
The rule does not make every promotion simple. Operators can still specify qualifying games, contribution percentages, expiry periods, maximum bets, payment-method exclusions and rules concerning how bonus and cash balances are used. Those conditions must be fair, transparent and not misleading.
Game weighting can increase the practical turnover
A game contributing 100% counts every £1 staked as £1 toward the requirement. At 20% weighting, a £1 stake contributes only 20p. Completing £100 of credited wagering entirely through a 20%-weighted game would require £500 of actual stakes.
| Wagering target | Contribution | Actual stakes needed |
|---|---|---|
| £100 | 100% | £100 |
| £100 | 50% | £200 |
| £100 | 20% | £500 |
| £100 | 0% | Cannot contribute |
Always check the eligible-game table. Roulette, blackjack, live casino, jackpots or feature purchases may contribute differently or be excluded.
Maximum bets, expiry and restricted play
Promotions may set a maximum stake while wagering is active. Going above it can breach the terms even when the game accepts the bet. Expiry rules can remove bonus funds or associated winnings when the requirement is not completed on time. Save the terms at opt-in because a marketing banner rarely contains every restriction.
Other clauses can address duplicate accounts, payment methods, location, minimum deposit, excluded games and withdrawal attempts made before completion. If the conditions are unclear, decline the offer instead of assuming the most favourable interpretation.
No-wagering does not mean no conditions
A no-wagering offer can allow a cash prize or free-spin winnings to be withdrawn without playthrough, but eligibility, expiry, stake values and maximum conversion or win caps may still apply. Use our casino bonus terms checklist to compare the remaining conditions.
Wagering-requirement FAQs
Can a UK casino use 20× wagering in 2026?
A Great Britain licensee must not apply wagering requirements to bonus funds above 10 times. Check that you are reading the UK terms for the correct date and jurisdiction.
Does the 10× cap apply to the deposit and bonus together?
The Gambling Commission wording caps wagering attached to the incentive or bonus funds. Read the operator's formula carefully and question wording that appears inconsistent with the current rule.
Does placing £100 of bets guarantee completing £100 wagering?
Only if every bet contributes 100%. At 50% weighting, £100 of actual stakes credits £50 toward the target.
Can I withdraw before wagering is complete?
The terms should explain whether withdrawing cancels the bonus, forfeits related winnings or requires the bonus to be removed first. Check before depositing.
